Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American anchor for a television newscast and a anchor and commentator on NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up living in New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature at the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her professional career as a journalist for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. In 1976 she was a part of the CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV located in Washington DC (then WTOP). She was promoted to Washington general correspondent to NBC News two years later. 1981 she started covering at the White House, and in 1988 she was appointed the chief congressional Correspondent. She was appointed chief White House Correspondent and in 1994, she was named chief foreign affairs reporter of NBC News. Mitchell was a guest in the TV news show Meet the Press as a host and panelist. She participated as a member of a panel discussion at the the 1988 Presidential Debates, which featured George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell won the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg Award in 2004 for her work in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell initially covered the White House for NBC News from 1981 to 1988, during both Ronald Reagan's terms as President. Mitchell covered a variety of notable news issues, such as the arm control, budget taxes and the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also went to many summits with the help of the President Reagan along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
